How the meeting ticker works

  1. 01

    Set the room

Headcount, blended hourly rate, currency. Presets cover the usual suspects.

  2. 02

    Share the ticker

Switch to focus mode and screen-share the meeting clock on Zoom or Teams. Watch the room speed up.

  3. 03

    Send the receipt

Stop the clock and export an itemized PNG. Paste it into Slack and let it do the talking.

The math is deliberately simple: attendees × hourly rate ÷ 3,600 gives the cost of every second, counted from real timestamps so a backgrounded tab never skews the total. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

Meeting ticker FAQ

6 questions
What is a meeting ticker?

A meeting ticker is a live clock that counts the cost of a meeting as time passes. Cost of Status turns headcount and a blended hourly rate into a dollar (or rupee, yen, euro) total that updates every second. Share it on Zoom or Teams so the room can see the burn in real time.

How do you calculate meeting burn rate?

Burn rate is attendees times average hourly rate, divided by 60 for a per-minute cost, or by 3,600 for each second. A six-person standup at $75/hr burns $7.50 every minute. The timer uses real timestamps, so pausing or a background tab does not drift the total.

Is this a meeting cost calculator or a meeting clock?

Both. Before you hit start it is a meeting cost calculator: set the room, currency, and rate. After start it is a meeting clock and live ticker. When you stop, you get an itemized receipt you can download or paste into Slack.

Can I use this during a Zoom or Microsoft Teams call?

Yes. Use focus mode to hide the controls and full-screen the ticker, then share that window. The elapsed time and running cost stay large enough to read on a shared screen.

Does Cost of Status store my meeting data?

No. Title, attendees, and rates stay in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. The receipt image is generated on your device.

Which currencies does the meeting cost calculator support?

USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, SGD, CHF, INR, BRL, MXN, JPY, KRW, PLN, and ZAR. Hourly sliders and team presets scale to local blended rates so a Tokyo standup is priced in yen, not a dollar figure with a yen symbol.
